I think that love triangle has to have a reason for being there. When I read Twilight, I was bored by the love triangle because I felt like Bella had very little reason to hang on to Jacob like she did for a while. A lot of books make it obvious which person is preferred, which is okay sometimes, but if it's really obvious it only upsets me when a the character in the center basically says "lets not hurt feelings okay can't choose favorites".

At least we always knew that Bella liked Edward better.
