It's kind of a little depressing that I scroll through your blog and see so many drooling, worshipping posts about the racist John Green, but there's not much about any modern female young adult writers. In fact, there's not much about women writers at all. You focus so much on old "classic literary" writers, but where's the Anne Patchett? Lorrie Moore? Alice Munro? Nora Roberts? Melina Marchetta? Sarah Dessen?

Whaaaat! I post about female writers all the time! I was in the same writing program/classes at UNC-CH that Sarah Dessen was in while she was there, and I’ve read all of her books, and I’ve posted about this before. Edith Wharton is one of my favorite authors all time. The last book I read was The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and I’m currently reading The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, interspersed with Flannery O’Connor’s short story collection A Good Man is Hard to Find, which I posted about on Thursday (…not that I need to be constantly posting about what I’m reading; I usually want to know what others are reading, since this a community blog and not a personal one). Did you see that the most recent quote I posted was from White Oleander by Janet Fitch? Have you seen all of my posts about JK Rowling’s new book lately? I don’t know what blog you’re looking at it but I don’t think it could be Yeah Write.

But listen—I am never going to let the gender of an author influence how I feel about his/her written work. I judge the work based on the work. I love John Green’s books and I think his writing has done huge things for YA lit, which is why I post about him (actually, I almost exclusively reblog posts by or about him, I don’t generate them myself, and I think “drooling” and “worshipping” are pretty strong words)—because I’m aware that a lot of my audience is made up of younger people. And I think his message to young writers about writing and publishing are great, hence their relevance to this blog.
