Is there any advantage in submitting a story earlier/later to a contest?

In some cases I know that stories aren’t read until submissions are closed, but that isn’t all the time. Maybe stories sent in before the last flurry of submissions are given more reading/consideration time? Or maybe stories sent in the last minute are more likely to be chosen because they have to pick something? I have no idea, I’ve only worked for one literary magazine. Anyway if any of y’all have any experience-driven advice on this, I’d love to know, and I’m sure others would too!
