On the subject of adverbs and 'telling' rather than showing, one of my pet peeves when reading a book or writing online, or anywhere so it goes, is something most exemplified by Kaleb Nation's 'Bran Hambric' series - the overuse of the phrase 'as if'. MY GOD. I don't have a problem with adverbs personally; I tend to use them virtually nowhere in my writing. Besides, 'as if' isn't exactly an adverb, I suppose, but a prelude to the horror that they are.
