Prompt idea by Beginninginthemiddle: Take a seat somewhere and look at someone, whether they’re driving an Escalade, sipping a mocha frap, or meandering while holding an umbrella. Pay attention! Then write about a specific instance in their past that led them to this moment: a mother who left a family behind because she couldn’t afford the car of her dreams, an intern who was made...

waxenantimony asked: If any of your followers have entered the World Poetry Movement contest, I'd like to inform them that it is most likely fraudulent. I received a mailing from them stating that I was a "semifinalist" in their contest. This conclusion was reached after checking the address [1776 Park Avenue, Park City, Utah] which seems to be a Cinemark 16.

If anyone knows anything...

liveinanutshell asked: So, this is my answer to the discussion question about "profession guilt." I was going to just type in and click "answer," but there was no way I could possibly write less than 140 characters. As a future philosophy major, I definitely did and still do feel that way from time to time. What do I have to help make the world be a better place for everyone while all the engineers,...

picnicpotroest asked: Hey! I wanted to respond to your question about professional guilt without worrying about a twitter-sized character limit. There can be creative writing for social change, noble causes, purposes of that ilk. Just by googling "novels social change", you'll find books like Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Jungle, and Invisible Man which have been as effective at moving audiences to...

Open Source
This is something that occurred to me recently. Many famous books were written before the year 1923, and all those books are no longer under copyright. That means you can use that work for free.  https://catalog.librivox.org/  This is a website for open source audio books. I haven’t explored it very far, but it is useful. BEST SUBMISSION THIS WEEK. THANK YOU.

drippingredroses asked: Lately I've been struggling with issues with writing. I feel like I'm not going to go anywhere with what I'm doing, or that whatever comes out simply isn't moving enough, heartfelt enough, or interesting enough. Do you have any advice on how to fix this?

Prompt Idea by flirtingwithhonesty: Write a letter to the person whom crosses your mind most often. I had an idea for another blog recently that this reminds me of. Maybe I’ll start it soon! It’d be easier to manage than YW. Read followers’ works inspired by this prompt: Dear you by Hayls Dear Random Hero by hanschen Dear______’ by Flirtingwithhonesty My Love Is Shared...

Would any yeah writers with 1000+ followers want...
In exchange, I could do a couple of things: 1. If you have a personal writing blog: Publish a link to any story/poem you wanted to send me, not just a prompt. 2. If you have a creative writing community blog ala YW: Publish a link to your site, a review, and put you on the friend’s list. 3. If you have a blog with lots of photos: Reblog a book photo you posted, with some kind of...

Sense Memory
(I posted this on my personal blog the other day. Someone wrote and said writers have great memory, but my memory is just okay other than this… Anyway, that’s the relevance.) I have really, really weird year-to-year sense memory. From May 29 to July 10 this summer, the exact dates I was in Berlin last summer, I couldn’t stop thinking about Berlin. New York felt like Berlin, I...

davidrex asked: On the topic of your Contributions to Society via Writing:

I also used to wonder the same thing, quite often, really. I found a really good way to not only rationalize my decision, but also to make myself feel like a bad-ass, which is this: Of the arts one can study, only one, one, is required, and that is Literature. In high school you are given so many electives to choose from,...

HP7.2: Changes from the book to the movie →
This is a really cool slideshow of 20 changes made from the book to the movie. Some I didn’t notice (I actually try not to read the books for about a year before the movie comes out, because then I’m not thinking “Hey, that’s not how it happened in the book!!!!!” during the whole movie—I can just enjoy it), but I like how this piece points out potential...

I like asking questions on here because I love reading the responses—I’m going to post some more often, so that our discussions can be more succinct. I’m on the train right now and I finally gave a name to something I’ve been semi-subconsciously musing about lately: “Profession guilt”. There was a time that I really wanted to be a lawyer, and I filled my head...

My Dad's First Book! (Click this to buy) →
I posted a link to this kid’s blog a couple weeks ago, because it’s awesome. He’s in the process of writing a book and based on what I’ve read so far, it’s going to be great. His dad’s now published a book and a lot of it is about him, and proceeds are for a good cause (read below) and hey, we like books! So check it. laughingatmynightmare: Hey everyone, my...
