Stories are posted--all 89!
89 is a good number… it’s the year I was born.
SO though yes, I have been really busy with my new internship (which is going great, everyone should check out the website I’ve been working on there: www.publishingtrendsetter.com), the real reason my message box has been piling up is because the house I’m living at didn’t have Internet. But I finally managed to fix...

raucous-ruckus-deactivated20120 asked: Hello! I'd first like to say that I love your blog. It inspires me and helps me think of hundreds of things to write. :) I'm going to be a senior in high school next year, and college is constantly on my mind. I'd really like to go into the publishing industry, so I figured I would major in English somewhere and get my BA and then possibly get my Masters at NYU. I'm still not...

scrawlingtruths asked: I have all of these ideas for writing, like I am currently writing two novels and two short stories, but I can never seem to get anything done other than short prose and poetry, because those are instant.
I'm even afraid to go to a writing prompt and start something new because I have unfinished business.
With all of these, I don't think it's that the...

missymansanas-deactivated201201 asked: Are we allowed to submit two stories to the same prompt? Or how about if we wrote the same story from two (or more) different points of views ─ would that be best in a single post/submission, or separated?

Write about two characters that both need something, but the other one has it. (Challenge: Do it in under 100 words)

Prompt idea by shewritesit:
Write about unrequited love without sounding cliche.
And definitely don’t use the phrase “unrequited love” because that is a huge cliche in itself.

Prompt idea by flyawayrae:
Describe a smell and tell us how it makes you feel.
I wouldn’t make this into a whole story, but more of a scene/description exercise (and “you” can be a narrator/main character too).

Prompt idea by shewritesit:
You are sitting at a coffee shop. A very elderly man suddenly sits at your table without asking. What happens next?
This actually happened to me once, at an outdoor market though. He’d gone to Carolina decades and decades ago and he was really interesting to talk to!

ophiuchaexmachina-deactivated20 asked: Titles depend heavily on a lot of elements of the story, so it is hard to really pinpoint a good way of titling a novel. A few general themes, though. Books with only one central character - one character who is the absolute focus of both the story and the POV - are generally named after them in some regard. The Harry Potter books are a good example, as each book has 'Harry Potter' at...

21argylesocks asked: Any suggestions on how to write more descriptively so that my imagery could be more vivid?

Read. A lot. And often. By reading writers who use detail in imaginative ways will help you imitate that style of writing and incorporate it into your own style. Also, I suggest taking Stephen King's advice and avoiding adverbs as much as possible (which are usually...

lovetaylorx-deactivated20110707 asked: I should probably ask this on your personal blog, but I'm too lazy to change where I'm going, so I'll just ask here. I'm working on a new internet magazine with a few friends and I stumbled onto your blog (okay that's a lie - I spend my entire life on both your blogs<3) when I read the story of the dead girl in the bathroom. I was wondering if we could feature this...

Stories are posted :) Finally. Also:
So, obviously I have been quite MIA lately, but I just posted a TON of stuff and went through all the asks and sent stuff to the prose feed. Weds-Fri I’ve been getting up at 6am and getting home at 8pm (commuting to the city) and my mom’s house has no wireless so keeping up with yw! has been difficult. I’ll be more in the routine soon.
My internship has been going well,...
punchedinthedick asked: For titles,
I always choose a line in my poem or whatever I'm writing that conveys the basic idea of the piece.
Hope that helps.

eeeelectricity asked: Hi,
Sorry for any intrusion, but it is for a good cause :)
On behalf of Michael Rothenberg and 100 Thousand Poets for Change, I am trying to increase visibility and get the word out to encourage more cities and more poets to participate in a global event aimed at promoting social and political change.
It would be wonderful if you could mention this on...

callyourname-crossmyfingers asked: about the Jane Eyre thing... I mean, I can see the similarities but to me it's totally different. She gets TOLD to go to school. She has Bessie, who really does love her and shows it occasionally. I don't know. It's just different to me.
violetorchids asked: I just started reading Jane Eyre as well! I can't seem to get through the first few chapters because in every page I seem to find a quote I can't help but write down! It is beautifully written!
yourotherboyfriend asked: Advices on choosing a title please. :)
